Purpose
Bricks and mortar refers to physical (rather than virtual or online) presences. For wine tastings, bricks and mortar observations allow us to best determine the mood and ambience of what a wine tasting is really like.
Results
We visited 3 different bricks and mortars place. Together, these represent the variety of casual locales that wine tastings are hosted at:
Field Observation: Crafton Heights, PA
After contacting Palate Partners, we were graciously invited to attend a private wine tastings that was being hosted at a Vin Fatales' member's house.
Field Observation: Palate Partners
We followed our residential wine tasting visit with a public wine tasting event hosted by Palate Partners at their Strip district store on Penn Ave.
Palate Partners is actually a store that sells wine accessories. They partner with a wine distributor called Dreadnought wines. Customers can sample a portion of their vast collection either by partaking in wine tastings or observing the empty bottles on their shelves.
Field Observation: Andy Warhol Museum
Our last field trip was to a public wine tasting hosted at the Andy Warhol Museum.
Summary
From our three different visits, we observed that all wine tasting venues looked inviting. The one hosted at the person's house, was warmly lit, and very spacious, so it was easily conducive to mingling. The Andy Warhol tasting offered several couches, which always had a several people sitting in them throughout the night. While the Palate Partners location was a bit more crowded, the smallness of the space lent itself well to the occasion as it provided ample opportunities for you to mingle with new strangers while waiting in line for more wine.
