Scenario One: Kathy, age 30
This scenario describes Kathy's use of the site when she is relatively new to the wine tasting world. It maps to the "novice" mental model.
Premise: Kathy has always enjoyed the occassional glass of wine, but has never been to a wine tasting before. One Friday night, she is dragged to a local wine tasting by her friend Linda.
After enjoying a couple of tastings together, Kathy becomes curious to find a tasting on her own to share with Linda.
How Kathy would use our site:
- Kathy comes in to our site, and it loads to the Taster page (by default, since she has not registered yet).
- Kathy looks over the available options to her and clicks on the Recommender link since she is unsure of what she should be looking for in a wine tasting, since her friend Linda has been the one choosing the tastings in the past.
- On the Recommender page, she answers a few of the questions that are important to her:
- She wants to find a place this week for her and Linda to go to
- She doesn't want anything that costs over $20
- She doesn't care about how many people they are or what age they are
- She notices the Recommender asks her whether she has had wine before and whether she has gone to a wine tasting before, so she answers that
- Based on her answers, the Recommender suggests 5 tastings for her, and displays them to her.
- Kathy reads each of the results, and chooses the one that most matches her interest.
Scenario Two: Kathy, age 32
This scenario describes Kathy's use of the site when she is relatively new to the wine tasting world. It maps to the "knowledgeable" mental model.
Premise: Over the past two years Kathy has come to realize her passion for wine. Wanting to introduce her boyfriend Mark to the wine tasting community that she is now a part of, she brings him to one of her favorite Friday night tastings.
How Kathy would use our site:
- Kathy comes in to our site. Because Kathy has been using our site for a few years now, the site recognizes who she is, and provides account information in addition to the usual taster page.
- Kathy has already used the site before to bookmark the wine tasting she went to last night.
- She clicks on a shortcut to the event, which loads a detailed page with all the information about that event.
- Kathy thoroughly enjoyed the tasting, and wants to comment on the event and the wine itself, so she clicks on the Review button.
- Kathy reads through the existing reviews to learn about what others thought and any advice others may had had. She then scrolls to the bottom to write her own review.
- At the end, she saves her review.
Scenario Three: Kathy, age 35, "hoster"
This scenario describes Kathy's use of the site when she is relatively new to the wine tasting world. It maps to the "hoster" mental model.
Premise: A year has passed since Kathy and Mark opened their bed and breakfast. Kathy is no longer teaching and now spends her time managing and cooking for the B&B.
Over the years their love of wine and wine tasting has grown, and now they want to share their passion with others.
How Kathy would use our site:
- Kathy comes in to our site. Because Kathy has been using our site for a few years now, the site recognizes who she is, and provides account information in addition to the usual taster page.
- Because Kathy wants to host an event, she clicks on the Hoster tab which presents a different set of tasks for her.
- She would like to create a tasting so she can invite her family and friends to come, so she clicks on the "Create a Tasting" link.
- On this page, Kathy is presented with various fields she that she fills in. She considers loading some pictures of her house, where she will be hosting her event, but decides that she will do that part later.
- Once filling everything out, she saves her event, which will automatically add it to her side panel.
