UI Design

During my career, I have worked on as many graphical user interfaces (GUIs) as I could. For some projects, the GUI was my primary responsibility: I designed it, built it, and configured it to be the front-end to another system. For example:

  • A one-click telephone-service provisioning system. A working prototype of a system enabling customer-service representatives at a telephone company to activate a new customer's telephone service with the click of a button.
  • A VCR interface to an interactive-TV system. Enabled customers to play, pause, fast-forward, and rewind movies stored on a digital video server, using their cable TV. (Comments only; no documentation available.)

In other situations, I had the opportunity to recommend changes to an existing interface. For example:

  • A mainframe GUI mockup. The existing Macintosh interface to this mainframe included duplicates of about 80 mainframe screens. I proposed an extension to the existing Mac software which would allow the users to perform all those functions, with increased speed, feedback, and reliability, using only a couple of graphical windows and menus.
